The short version: Voice Recorder works on your device. Your recordings, imported audio, transcripts, translations and summaries are stored locally and are never uploaded to our servers. We do not require an account. The app shows ads through Google AdMob, uses Firebase for anonymous usage statistics and crash reports, and relies on Google Play for purchases. The sections below explain all of this in detail.

This Privacy Policy describes how the Voice Recorder application for Android (the "App"), the developer of the App ("we", "us" or "our"), and this website handle information when you use the App. It does not apply to third-party services that have their own privacy policies, such as Google Play or Hugging Face.

By installing or using the App you acknowledge this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with it, please do not use the App.

1. Information you create and store on your device

The App is a local-first audio recorder. The following content is created by you or by features running on your device, and is stored in the App's local storage (an app-specific folder under the device's Music directory, plus the App's private application data):

We do not upload your audio, transcripts, translations, summaries, file names or any other user content to our servers, and we do not operate a cloud storage or sync service. Voice effects, audio trimming, speech-to-text, translation and summarisation all run on your device.

2. Device permissions and why we ask for them

The App does not request access to your contacts, calendar, precise location, camera, SMS or phone calls. You can revoke any permission at any time in Android system settings; features that depend on a revoked permission will stop working, but the rest of the App remains usable.

3. Local processing and optional model downloads

Transcription, translation and AI summaries use speech and language models that run entirely on your device. To use a language or AI feature for the first time, the App may ask you to download the corresponding model. Models are downloaded over HTTPS from our model repository hosted on Hugging Face and stored locally in the App's private storage. During a download, Hugging Face receives standard request information such as your IP address, request time and user agent, subject to Hugging Face's own privacy policy. No audio or text is sent to Hugging Face or to us as part of this process.

You can delete downloaded models at any time in the App's settings or by clearing the App's data. Deleting models frees storage but means the corresponding feature must download the model again before it can be used.

4. Wi-Fi transfer

The App can start a temporary web server on your device so that a browser on the same local network can download your recordings and transcripts, or upload files into the App. This transfer happens directly between your device and the browser:

Because the transfer is local, anyone who can reach your device on the same network and knows the PIN could access the files you expose. Use Wi-Fi transfer only on networks you trust, and stop the transfer when you are finished.

5. Advertising

The App is free and supported by advertising delivered through Google AdMob (Google Mobile Ads). We do not use any third-party ad mediation networks; Google is the only advertising provider in the App. Ads may appear as app-open, interstitial, rewarded or banner formats.

To serve and measure ads, Google and its advertising partners may collect and process information such as your device's advertising identifier, IP address, device and operating-system information, general (city-level) location derived from your IP address, and information about ads shown or clicked. This processing is carried out by Google under its own policies. See the Google Privacy Policy and How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

Where required by law (for example in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland), the App shows a Google-certified consent message before personalised ads are requested. You can review or change your choices at any time in the App under Settings → Ad privacy settings. You can also reset or delete your advertising ID and opt out of personalised advertising in Android system settings (Settings → Google → Ads). If you purchase the optional "remove ads" product, ads are no longer shown in the App.

There is no separate "ads privacy policy" document. Information about advertising, the advertising identifier and Google's role is part of this Privacy Policy. The consent dialog you may see in the App is a choice mechanism provided by Google's User Messaging Platform, not a separate agreement, and it links back to this policy.

6. Analytics and crash reporting

We use Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics (Google) to understand how the App is used and to find and fix problems. Collection starts after the App's first screen is ready; nothing is sent during the earliest part of a cold start.

What analytics records

Analytics events never include your recordings, audio content, transcripts, translations, summaries, file names, search keywords or contact information. We do not attach a name, email address or account identifier, and we do not set a Firebase user ID. Firebase automatically generates an app-instance identifier and may also derive your approximate region from your IP address.

What crash reports contain

If the App crashes or encounters a serious error, Crashlytics may collect the stack trace, the state of the App at the time, device model, operating system version, app version, and short diagnostic breadcrumbs (for example the current screen or player state). We also set a small number of technical custom keys such as a recording-duration bucket. Crash reports do not contain audio, transcripts or other user content.

Firebase also provides Remote Config, which we use to retrieve configuration flags. It does not receive user content. Data processed by Firebase is retained according to Google's default retention settings (currently up to 14 months for analytics data and about 90 days for crash reports) and is used only in aggregate to operate and improve the App. It is not used to target advertising inside the App.

You can read more in the Firebase Privacy and Security documentation.

7. Purchases

The optional "remove ads" product is a one-time, non-consumable purchase processed by Google Play Billing. Google handles the transaction and receives your payment information; we never receive or store your card details. We receive the product identifier and purchase status so that the App can unlock the ad-free experience and restore it after reinstalling.

The App stores a purchase token and entitlement flag locally to keep the ad-free state in sync. This local copy is deliberately excluded from Android cloud backup and device-to-device transfer; the authoritative record remains with Google Play. Refunds, cancellations and payment disputes are handled by Google Play under its policies.

8. Storage, backup and deletion

All recordings, transcripts and settings live on your device. You can delete a recording from the library (it is moved to the in-app Recycle Bin), restore it, empty the Recycle Bin, or delete the App's data entirely in Android settings. Uninstalling the App removes its private data and downloaded models; files you exported or shared elsewhere are not affected.

Android's system backup may copy app data, and recordings stored in the App's external files directory, to your own Google Drive backup if you have backup enabled on your device. This backup is controlled by you and Google, not by us. You can disable it in Android system settings. The local purchase record is excluded from backup by the App.

9. Sharing with other apps

When you choose to share, export or import a file, Android's system share sheet or file picker is used. The app or service you select then receives the content you chose to share, and its own privacy policy applies. We do not control those third-party apps. In-app ratings and reviews are handled by Google Play.

10. Third-party services we use

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your recordings or transcripts for advertising, profiling or model training.

11. Children

The App is a general-purpose recording tool and is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in the European Economic Area where local law requires a higher age). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has used the App in a way that raises a privacy concern, contact us and we will help you delete the relevant local data and any analytics records we can identify.

12. Your rights and choices

To exercise any right that requires our help, email us at the address below. We may need to ask for enough information to understand your request, but we will never ask for your recordings.

13. International processing

Google and Hugging Face operate globally and may process information in countries other than your own, including the United States, under their own safeguards such as standard contractual clauses. The App's own content stays on your device.

14. Security

We design the App to keep content local: recordings and transcripts live in app-specific storage, model downloads and third-party requests use HTTPS, and Wi-Fi transfer is protected by a short-lived PIN and in-memory sessions. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure. Protect your device with a screen lock, keep backups under your control, and only enable Wi-Fi transfer on trusted networks.

15. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when the App's features or legal requirements change. The effective date at the top will be updated, and material changes will be communicated in the App or on this page before they take effect. Continued use of the App after an update means you accept the revised policy.
